A Bit Of Afternoon Rain

A bit of afternoon rain
In a summer of funereal thoughts
Drenching the soul with a new rosiness
Quenching the thirst of grains of trance

When tomorrow comes
The sprouts will emerge from darkness
Raising the flags of aspirations upwards
Burying the demons of awe downwards

The message from heart
Is no more coos, it is louder than floods
Extruding in the canvas of vivid colours
Exalting the bliss of liberty from worries

Green Pond

Rain subsided
Life is getting dry again
The days of sunshine leads me
To the nights of melancholic dreams
No more chilly winds and
Dripping droplets from nascent leaves
This wetland is getting barren again
A small patch is all that left
Devoid of human encroachment
Though surrounded by buildings
A shall rain pond
Its surface looks as if painted green
With its layer of glowing algae
Resembling a thin grassland
Starting from the sloppy valley
Created by the heap of workshop waste
Ends at the basements of walls around
Three tree pits stands dwarf
Growing afresh with new leaves
They were razed down some months ago
There are no woodpeckers or kingfishers
Flying around
But there might be some fishes in the pond
Beneath its green belly
It never ceases to fascinate me
As I see this pond, re-emerging from dry patch
Aftermath every monsoon
Each time it takes different shapes
It will dry up again soon
It will remain idle, waiting for next monsoon
It’s a haven for mosquitoes now
Even though I wish to see, it dried up soon
As I don’t want bites from mosquito babes
Sweethearts who love my blood
I will keep this unusual green pond
In my monsoon memories

This is the 150th poem in this blog.A small landmark.
Well this is about a pond in my neighborhood that emerges periodically after every monsoon.

A Crow in the rain

It’s monsoon time here
Rain clouds have built their kingdom in the sky
Chilly winds have started their wild swings
Slight drizzle made those waving coconut trees
Look pretty as newlywed bride
As I watched them through my window
I saw a lonely crow sitting calmly
On the top of tilted roof of a neighborhood house
The roof made of well-woven coconut leaves
Always bear a nostalgic style
In the middle of a concrete jungle
It’s rare to see a crow drenching in rain
So I wondered, why is it sitting there patiently
Is it struggling to fly!
Did it lose its way!
Once in a while, it waved its wings
To drain away the water from its body
And its ash colored neck took a weary look
Just like a hunk having a funky hairstyle
Then I saw a flock of rain insects
Flying from the backside of that house
And my new friend had its eye on them
Just like any predator, so sharp and so focused
Rose very slow making less noise
It snatched one fly with its beak
Without sitting back, it snatched some more
Then took rest for a while
And waited for some more preys
Seeing the bravery of this friend
Some crows flew towards the roof
They sat on it keeping a distance
It reminded me of a row in my school assembly
Without any in fights
They took their fiefdoms to hunt
Rain didn’t deter their quest
As hunger dominated their will
After they finished their decent lunch
They flew away to find shades to rest
As the rain started withdrawing from the scene
The image of my lonesome friend in my mind
Made me wonder
Why I didn’t capture it’s snap!

Electric-“shock”-Bill

Every day as I sit to work
Thinking deeply about what to write
And searching for the content
My UPS starts crying
Shut the PC and let me rest
Yeah, the power has gone
May be
The power cables fought as usual
With roadside tree branches
Or may be
Someone from electricity board
Pulled up the main fuse in our area
Power Minister talks about his achievements with pride
But, he can’t do much to generate more power
Nor reduce the transmission loss
Come rainy season
We have to endure dark nights
Under the shade of candles or emergency lamps
Come summer season
Minister will talk about shortage of water in dams
And reduction of power sharing from other states
There are no official power cuts
But when the sun showers his fury on us
With the thermometers reading higher centigrade
We are destined to use hand-powered fans
To keep ourselves cool
Or we have to take refuge in liquids
But even chilling the liquids becomes impossible
As they play with us keeping our power away
Yet when we get our electricity bill
We find unusual taxes
Unusual sur-charges
Sometimes
They force us to pay double the principal amount
Yeah this is monopoly
Pay it on time whatever amount on bill
Or get your connection taken away
If we call for emergency repair
They say we will come
May be hours or days later
But they will be at home to disconnect
The power cable right on the day
After the bill date
They are sharp at least in this duty
I wonder
Where does all consumer protection groups
Goes hiding
When the power board squeezes money
Out of common people
As we have no other cheaper alternative
To fall back on
We keep paying what’s on the bill
We never get good service for what we pay
There are no provisions for us
To demand reduction in payment
For getting sub-standard service and untold power cuts
They can hike price whenever they want
And if you ask someone about it
They will tell till go to complaint section
Or meet some other officials
I know nothing can be done
And I walk as usual back to home
To play with my power buddy
Shutting on and shutting off my pc
Every other hour
While pursuing my quest to complete the work
With a wait for another “electric-shock-bill.”

Legendary Tree

Where is that old legendary tree?
For years, it stood as a talismanic figure
In front of a junction of history
Beside the historic royal path
In front of grand old institutions
Like the Victorian town hall, University college, Sanskrit college
It stood and saw the times of change
In the end, fell down to sacrifice itself as the cost
For new age development
Soon vehicles will run
Over the very place, where it stood
It seems something is missing there
Bright light is streaming around
Than that beautiful shadows of branches
Now the roadside vendors
Too went missing as part of change
In rain days, it covered many people from rain
With its massive branches
During hot sunny days, it gave the breeze
It gave shelter to hundreds of people from scorching heat
As they waited, for buses that headed towards their destinations
Now there is a big vacuum
It’s hard to fill in and it never will be filled in
Those who once enjoyed the warmth of it
They will surely miss it whenever they pass by
It’s inevitable, as hundreds have to travel
Wider road is a necessity
That marked the end of a glorious life
It left a mark on the history of the city
I still remember those beautiful greeting cards
Sold under the shade of that tree
During Christmas, Valentines Day, Friendship day etc
I still remember those vendors selling
Vegetables, fruits, seeds and other stuffs
I couldn’t forget some policemen
Standing and helping the pedestrians to cross the road
During rush hours
Now people will wait for bus in the bus shelter
Finally, it will have people standing there
As that grand old tree is no more to give shade
Soon no one will remember that grand old tree
That stood meters inside the road
It was once a hub of activities
Now its space is a hub for vehicles to run fast

Night Rain

its a beautiful night.....
where is the moon and stars?
clouds did u hide them from me?
oh you wind..
why are you waving fiercly?
now that i m listening to u
the tiny miny droplets of rain
how did u learn the music?
love works in mysterious ways and friendship courts the night ... rain
brings waves of cleaning and renewal to the face of life
rain can bring freshness into extinct hearts
revitalising thoughts in a positive way
rain can wash away all those negativeness
just like as if nothing happened ever
oh that wind that drags the rain across the sky
daring all who get near to feel the utter darkness that lies within
whipping the world into a vortex of feelings and emotions
bringing lost and lonely souls to the apex
swirling them in a flow of retrospection
in search of a brighter light of hope
to find ways to escape to a shelter
where peace is awaiting to heal them
drumming rain drenching the world in colors
colors of brite and light matching piece by piece
into the darkness of night ... falling falling
unsure and unattached falling .....
when seen with heart, even in darkness
one can see those beautiful color fall
as if its a heavenly flourishing of blessings
for giving salvation to every molecule of nature
souls peek from behind the fast moving clouds
feeling the rain .... dreaming of life
hope and happiness
may this rain bring resounding magic
spreading waves of happiness all across
changing the way life looks like
a welcome change for the lost souls

Unseasonal Rain

Life was moving on boring as ever,
With spring gone, beauty of nature too.

With leaves falling and swaying with wind,
Sun geared up to smile on nature,
Everyone were waiting for some hot days,

But ,astonishingly!
It lashed, the rain.

Flash floods ramped across the state,
Roads got immersed under the fury,
Of what turned out to be unseasonal rain!

Rather than relishing the relief,
People emerged out of homes with umbrellas,
Cursing on the rain for ruins.

The days passed on and on,
But the rain that changed the season,
Just kept dancing on the land!

More than excitement, agony creeped in,
Kids just looked at the sky,
Asking themselves ,when will it end?

But, the nature got a refreshing cover,
Greenery surfaced all around,
Cheering the minds, cooling the agony.

The cold winds, which accompanied rain,
Became an ecstasy for many,
Those who loved the rain walked through it,
Dancing with the rhythm of the raindrops!

Dampness remained in surface for long,
But it didn’t dampened the spirits,
Everyone knew the unwelcome guest,
Will just vanish as if nothing happened.

But the unseasonal rain was a hit,
As it challenged the weather predictions,
“Proving all the science wrong”!
Showed that “Mother Nature” can surprise,
At her will any time, with unseasonal rain,
Reiterating herself as “the queen of earth”!
