Dream Road

I dreamed about a road
Carved through the chest of a hill
Connecting an isolated neighborhood
To the bridge across a small river
I dreamed about colorful buses
Running through that steep road
To the courtyard of the church atop the hill
While walking through that small path
In which hardly a person can walk
Now vehicles ply over a road
Just as I dreamed as a child
There are no taxes to dream
If it comes true, it isn’t a miracle
It’s destiny!

I Like You

I’m flattered

Like a lonely frosty lake
In sight of a surprising sunshine
Keen to warm up all the frozen senses
Easing away from the droplets of fear in my soul

Your eyes have left me blind with its sacred shine
Out voicing my heart with your all-conquering words
Unfolded my life, instilling a desire to steal your heart

Languages Signs Symbols

On the street, bus, train or flight
We see hundreds of strangers,
who speak unknown languages!
They try to ask for directions,
Queries about place and shops
Or about stuffs they wish to buy
With signs, symbols, actions
And the words they know
They try to convey their thoughts
Hoping that we will understand
Then they eagerly wait for our reply
Tries hard to grasp what we say
However, they might not have any clue
About what we say
With a smile, they greet us, thanks
Even if our efforts couldn’t help them
If we know their language
They seek our help to convey their thoughts
To the ones they wish to interact
As a translator
It’s always hard to travel to an unknown land
With unknown language and culture
As even gestures can have different meaning
But I find people courageous
When they try to defy the barriers of language
To get where they wish and do what they want

Abundance

Abandoned paddy fields are aplenty in Kerala
Barren or marshy, waits for fresh lease of life
Unused, but still a haven for the greenery
Nurturing the unwanted plants and pests
Drenched in rain, they look like a carpet
Acts as the granary for animals and birds
Nursery for small fishes to swim around
Cultivation can help in food security, but
Expects death calls from greedy realtors

Fogged Lake

A vast lake
Dressed up in early morning fog
She is waiting for her lover, the sun
Grey sky shaded its waterscape
Without waves, she is looking so calm

A small country boat positioned itself
In the middle of the deep trench
For catching some sleepy fishes
A lonely crow slowly flew across
As if searching for someone
At a distance, another boat raced through
Creating a channel of wave in a straight line
From one shore to the another

The grey fog has spoiled the trees around
They were silent as if it’s freezing
On the outer, the lake looked serene
I wonder how deep the water is!
Though beautiful, it’s salty to drink
But, it’s tempting to breach its depth
When I look through the window of this train

Rain journey

It was a delightful evening
Blessed with chilly sweet rain
Neither too heavy nor too light
But we felt it gentle to walk through it
Waited for a late night train to hometown
As we missed the last early evening train
All the seats in the bogey were taken
We occupied the space near the door

As the train moved, I saw the drizzle
In the shade of lights on the track
Later, I noticed the rhythm of rain
Dancing in the arms of the gentle wind
Resembling a romantic ballroom dancing couple
But the speedy train separated them with its force
Turbulently without any truce towards their unison
As the train breached the darkness and silence of night
I saw the dark clouds on the sky with the lights in the bogey
Though the chilly wind bothered us a bit, it was refreshing
We sat on the floor; we stood at times, choicelessly awake
When others somehow slept despite the crunched space
I never watched rain that longer at late night before
I felt scared whenever train ran through the bridges
As I saw the burgeoned rivers and lakes with rainwater
More over I saw the fierceness of rain piercing the water
Like a ruthless warrior killing his opponent in battlefield
Rain showed the face of innocence when it oozed down
Through the roofs of houses or drenched trees along the track

When the train rested at the stations, I saw the glittering rain
Sprinkling colorfully as the overhead lightings reflected it
By the time, the train reached my hometown
The canvas for the rain changed from darkness
But it kept painting as if it found endless joy
Coloring the nature with its colors

New Year Rain

Another new year came in
Without knocking the door
As it replaced the old door
With its ever green touch
That refuses to die down
Despite the age catching up
Its glorious hands with change
That seamlessly marching on
Even as the astrologers immersing
Themselves in predicting the future

I looked at the bright sun and felt great
It’s the new-year sunshine, a great omen
A spirit that always drove me on in the past
To make new resolutions for the year ahead
And to try to make it happen at least for a day

Waking up from an unusual slumber
I heard the noise of battlewagon of the rain
As the wind smashed through the coconut trees
I sensed the raw fragrance of the barren earth
I wondered why it is raining on a new year’s day!
I wonder if this is the year to redefine the seasons
As now rain comes unprecedently and lasts for long
While the winter and summer plays hide and seek game
Though it ruined my day, it let me to get lazy once more
To slip down into the arms of music and raw thoughts

Rain has given me an excuse to stay clear from stress
Sometimes, embracing the idleness in company of rain
In the lonely den of this world is much better than being out
Venting out the stress at some hapless opponents somewhere
As rain brings pieces of peace inside its droplets to share with us
May be this rain is just a new-year gift from the sky to think
A path might unfold by holding the droplets in the heart
A reminder for the days to come, peace will lead the way

Wish you all a happy new year!

Lonely duck

Afternoon blues tore up the rain clouds
To showcase the sky with its glowing arms
Sunshine put brakes on the erratic rain
Water logged roads remained lazy
To dry up in rhythm with the sun
Potholes in dilapidated roads
Shined as if its jewels
And it resembled ponds
A duck aloof from its herd
Amidst a deserted city street
Found the luxury to have a bath
Peacefully in one of the potholes
Swaying its wings, taking time at will
Without being bothered about anything
The pedestrians or odd vehicles passing by
It enjoyed the bath relying on natural instincts
Though, it had never seen its real habitat once
The fields and lakes where its predecessors
Swam the life at the pace of virgin nature
Born in hatcheries, it was walked through
The miles by the vendors from camps to camps
Without seeing any water stream all along the way
For it, roads are equivalent to the idyllic waterways
Forced to run around a plot filled with coconut trees
Lonely duck made friendships with the people and dogs
Strangers and vehicles don’t scare it anymore
As the parking lot brings countless of them everyday
It has buckets of water to gulp down its thirst
Occasional rains quench its innate urge to drench
Though, swimming is impossible in its new home
There are no fishes and worms to hunt down
It’s Fed with the grains and human food
It is caged in the wave of space crunch
In the allay of city life It never wished
As it couldn’t fly away back to the nature

Proposal in rain

Sunny morning greeted her a message
An invitation to be there at the rose hill
A serene garden of fragrant pretty roses
A place for romance amidst the silence
That is breached only by the mystic wind
The tales of love  written all over the air
The songs of love sung by the butterflies
Welcomed her to a world of lively dreams

The roses smiled at her as if greeting a friend
While her eyes scrambled around for a glimpse
Of her beloved man who invited her for a date
The  signboards encrypted with roses lead her
Towards the an arena of her favorite pink roses

Surprised at the deserted look of the garden
She looked around with her pleading eyes
She asked him to come alight sweetly
It’s the rain that drizzled in return

she looked skywards delightfully
Closing her eyes with a charm
she embraced the rain  as a gift
she drenched in company of roses

when she opened her eyes slowly
she saw the exotic bunch of pink roses
within the reach of her trembling  hands
As she felt butterflies in her tummy atonce
Seeing her lover on his knees with a  smile
Asking her if she will marry him amidst roses

Cracking her secret wish like a smart magician
She took the roses and embraced the silence
She heard his heartbeats aloud in that frozen
Emotion filled rose garden conquered by rain
She erupted the passion and joy with her yes

As he jumped like a crazy kid punching the air
Before hugging her with an aura of gratitude
For accepting his wish to share life with her
Even as the rain kept dancing in its full rhythm

Seven Sins

Sins filled my life like a rain of nightmares
Even when I wished not to embrace it
Vultures of urges lured me towards it
Earning me the jackpot full of regrets
Needlessly staining my image of goodwill

Staying away from it was the easiest option
Ill-fated failures and betrayals made me an evil
Naively chasing upon the sins to find slice of peace
Sluggishly it dumped me into junkyard of sinned souls

Anger

An easy escape route from troubles in the life
Naïve channel to vent out all the frustrations
Garbage of emotions bursting at wrong time
Evil spear that can hurt hearts beyond repair
Rash action that could end relations forever

Shining Moon on a Rainy Night

My friends laughed at me
When I said, I saw a shining moon on a rainy day
They never believed
And asked me to prove it
On another rainy night
There was a glimpse of faint moonlight
Shaded by the moving clouds
They had reason to say I was wrong
With a tint of humour
As it’s impossible to see the moon
On a cloudy dark rainy night
It was a tough image to capture on a canvas
As my painter friend tried her best
To recreate that shining moon with colours
She gave up after messing with three canvases

On that special day, it rained throughout
I thought the rain would take a breather at night
But the rain clouds refused to leave
And it kept sending millions of rain droplets
Without any intent of reducing the vigour
Even as the day ended
It was a full moon night,
But the moon was nowhere to see
As the clouds covered the moon
As if, they had a pre-meditated motto
The cold rain breeze made the evening chilly
As the thunder and lightning stayed away
The scenario wasn’t that terrifying even in that darkness
Slowly, rain paced itself down to a slight drizzle
Dancing in various angles forced by the breeze
With clouds making their way out slowly
To my surprise, I started seeing brightness in the sky
Slowly it became clearer
With the moon making well-orchestrated appearance
Glittering the cloud leftovers like transparent smoke
The sky looked enticing
Drizzling raindrops were visible
As the moon appeared in it entirety
Smiling as if it conquered something
I was able to see the swaying trees
With raindrops oozing down
From the tips of their leaves
Even some stars were visible
I was wondering if it was a dream
To see the drizzling rain, swaying trees, shining stars,
Beautiful clouds and breeze
Well lit by the full moon
As it looked auspicious in a way
I was watching the rain being a rain enthusiast,
Sitting on my balcony as power broke-down
As usual during heavy rain
First in darkness, then under the magical full moonlight
Truly an amazing spectacle that I keep in my heart

Rain canals

As a kid, I loved the canals
I loved watching water flowing
Through the small canals alongside
The green paddy fields in my village

I dug up small canals around my home
Connected all of them to create a system
I dug trenches to fill in the rainwater from canals
I dug notches to divert the water to coconut tree plots

When it rains, I used to glance through the windows
To see the water gushing through my rain canals
Sometimes I put paper boats from one end
Then I wait to see it sailing down the slope
Slowly towards those plots or trenches

Those canals were scaled rivers for me
That brims into life only when it rains
It was a crazy hobby but I loved it
Last night I dug a small rain canal
Alongside the road near my home
To flush away the flooded rainwater
At night under the bright streetlight

I found myself excited just as that kid
When I saw the rainwater racing away
When it rains, I turn pages of memory
I still have so many rain canals to dig
To show my kids how to enjoy rain
