Guardians of the River

Two men unboarded the last bus to the village

Right after the bridge after 11 pm

After watching a movie in the town

They walked with torch showing the path

On a pitch-dark night

The frogs and crickets in the paddy fields

Let their presence known

They saw two strangers at the river bathing ghat

They jumped into the river and swam merrily

They asked, do you want to join us?

It is serene with cold water

The men asked the strangers

Who are you? We have never seen you before

Strangers laughed and spoke

We are the guardians of this river

For many years now

The men realized that their villagers used to remind them

If two men ask them to join in the river at night

Never jump into the river

As those were the ghosts of men drowned

In the river

So fond of swimming in that river

The men started running in fear and climbed the hill

They lost their torch and direction

The ghosts screamed and chased them

One of the men fell unconscious

The other somehow reached home

Those strangers still wait for people at night

At the bathing ghat

The legend continued and many more people

Saw the ghosts at night and ran for their lives

Do I Love Her?

I am on a long walk

through the cobblestone road

at the middle of the night

when the streetlights

refused to show me the way

the moon came to my rescue

even on this rainy day, to my surprise!

Where am I going?

I don't know

All I know is that I will walk

as long as my legs don't tire down

My spirits are on the high

as I threw my umbrella

to walk through this chilly rain

I wonder if I am mad!

But I feel so excited

I asked myself

Do I love her?

I am in search of an answer

I feel she's walking alongside me

smiling and laughing cutely

I can hear her singing a song

She shared with me earlier

The more I walked

All I see is her fluttering around

Like a butterfly

I don't know why her smile is

flashing in my heart

Is she an angel?

Why am I crazy about her?

I tried to walk so far

To see if she remains in my mind

All i am thinking is about her

Oh my heart, tell me now

Do I love her?

An Ocean Apart

We are at the beaches

Separated by an ocean of silence

I don't know the distance

between us, at this moment

You're seeing the sunrise there

I am waiting for the sunset here

Until then I will count the waves

That touches my heart

I miss the mystified smile of yours

And I miss your way of making me mad

This endless ocean seems to be bigger

I can't swim that far, to be there

I am just waiting for the ocean to dry up

So that we can walk towards each other

When our minds are cooled

Unsaid words are setting the tone

for the moments now

Even in this lonely wind

I can feel the warmth of your love

Emotions are far too strong to freeze

I tried to run away from it

But when I think about you

I rather wish to hold on to the hope

That you will find your way back to me

I don't know when I wrote this. I found this in an old paper book I used for writing poetry.

New Purpose

 I wish to paddle away

Farther from the past

To a new shore

Build a hut on the beach

Sculpt ideas with sand

See sunrises and flying birds

Seeking fishes in the dawn

Gaze the stars and moon

Beside a bonfire at night

And drown in new dreams

Find a new purpose for life

Friday Night

 Her risque gape

Sent invitation to join her

On a walk through the town

On a freezing Friday night

While streets were empty

She termed herself as an author

Told tales from her life

It turned fatal

When she offered a coffee

At her home

Snorting cocaine
